Disgusted and dejected - 4 year ago

I bought this today to detect shallow hurried live cables. It is very difficult to set it to its most sensitive range which, contrary to the instructions does not seem to be selected upon power on. Even if on the most sensitive range, it has not got much range at all and will not even reliably trace an unburied cable reliably. The device is useless and is not worth anything let alone the £16 asked for it. I'm taking mine back. Hopefully, B & Q will honour their returns policy.

It doesn't work

I read the 2 previous bad reviews and thought they must have just been unlucky. I just bought one. It simply doesn't work. I have tried it on everything from live cables to plug sockets. The only things it has detected so far is a radiator when touched. I will be taking it back on Monday - an irritating return visit. I looked at much better versions in review on line - I will be buying one of those instead. I'd recommend saving yourself the hassle and doing that too.

Useless!

This is useless. Unless you stick in a live socket, it gives no indication of voltage. It will not detect through an insulated cable. I have tried it on 13A kettle leads and a 32A ship to shore power cable. Nothing. Good on bare wires but the whole idea of this device is to detect voltage in insulated cables!
