It is recommended to put 15cm gravel layer, then 5cm sand layer and cover it up with anti-weed non-woven fabric. Use concrete blocks as the foundation. Water out-flow from between the joists should be ensured if installed on a non-absorbing ground. Use non-absorbing support, eg. Rubber ones. Sructural arrangement of the joists, the gap between them should not be bigger that 250mm in case of 20 x 95mm board, and 400mm for 24 x 120mm board. Minimal distance from the building: joists structure and deck boards should be installed in a way that they lay at least 10mm from the building to allow expansion. To ensure rain water out-flow and prevent accumulation of water, the boards should be installed with the grooved layer along with the decline which should be around 1cm/2cm to allow easy out-flow of water. Boards mounting: use stainless screws with the min diameter of 4.5mm to mount the boards. The length of the screw should be twice that the thickness of the board. Each board is screwed-in with the joists with the screws located in one line and in the same distance from the board’s edges. For the 20 x 95 board it is enough to use two screws for the point of contact with the joist, and three screws for the 24 x 120 boards. To avoid top and edge cracks the screws should be a. While screwing-in keep at least 20mm distance from the top of the board b. keep at least 20mm distance from the longer edge of the board. drill pilot holes before screwing-in the screws to avoid cracks in the boards. The space between the boards should be kept from 5 to 6mm both between side and top boards, especially if there are at least two boards in one line. ensure that the cut boards and joists or drilled holes are protected by wood preservative to extend the longevity of the terrace.
