Absolute rubbish.

Been asked to fit these light fitting this morning for a customer, they purchased them themselves. I’ve been an electrician for over 12 years and these are by far the worst I’ve seen and fitted. Whoever designs these obviously doesn’t fit them.

Awful - returned

Poor quality and the electrical component not fit for purpose. Cheap, but poor value for money if unusable.

You get what you pay for.

A very basic small ceramic wall uplighter. The supplied lamp holder is a complete pain to wire and holds the bulb too high so it can be seen and is off to one side so the light emitted is asymmetric. The solution is to throw away the bracket supplied and just fit the bulb holder section to the ends of the supply wires, these even if 1mm solid copper will be stiff enough to hold the bulb in position low and central to the fitting. I used a golf ball LED bulb which is a better fit than the longer candle type. I also modified the plaster shade by filing one of the mounting holes to a vertical oval slot so as to allow the fitting to be adjusted so it sits level on the wall, and I drilled and filed a slot about an inch and a half long by a quarter inch wide at the bottom against the back of the shade to allow a little light to shine down the wall as well as up. Was all a bit of a fiddle and involved quite a bit of swearing to fit the first one, but once you have figured it out doing more is not a problem, and gives quite a good looking little light at just £10 a pop.

Very Poor Quality

I bought 3 of these and they are of such poor quality that I am returning them straight away. The ceramic housing is adequate but the electrical standards are appallling and, in my opinion, dangerous. There are no screw terminals, the wire ends are presumably meant to just rely on a push fit into the bottom of the lamp base. As there are no instructions it is not clear which hole the wires are supposed to be inserted into in the lamp base. Totally unfit for purpose and a waste of money and time.

took them back

The electrical fitting is not fit for purpose. Cheaply made.

Inexpensive but fiddly connections

An inexpensive uplighter solution that melds subtley to the wall and gives a nice light (dependent on bulb you fit) but with a little more thought could have been better designed for making the connections and fitting the shade to the wall.

Plain and simple,

Wanted unobtrusive lights and these fit the bill fabulously, and great price.

Terrible quality....don't buy!

Purchased 3. These have been sitting on the floor waiting to be returned since I spent over an hour with the fiddly un-user friendly installation only for the light not to work because the connections are so poor. Don't waste your money!

Very good, but they're not for everyone!

Cosnidering the price of this units (8 quid!) they're excellent!. I've fitted them throuhout my home (11 in total) and I think they're brilliant. However, they're not suitable for someone without basic DIY skills and they won't be popular with electricians! Here are my experiences. First, they're made of unfinished, unsealed plaster. This is a deliberate design choice, because the lights are meant to painted after installation. As a result, there are both draw-backs and advantages! First, your hands will be coated in white dust as you handle the lights, exactly as you'd expect. Second, because the lights are made by casting them in a mould, they might not be perfect out of the box. They may have pits, dents and an eneven surface; again. as you'd expect. (Remeber the £8 price tag?!). The solution is simple; just apply a thin coat of Polyfilla over any imperfections and then lightly sand until smooth. Having said that, more than half of my lights required no sanding or filling at all. Screwholes are provided to mount the lights to the wall, but if the holes are in the wrong position or not angled sufficiently to allow screwdriver access, they can be very easily drilled to a different angle. Or you can drill new holes to suit your requirements. Or .. you could even glue the lights to the wall! And yes, there isn't much room for electrical wiring. But if you use 1mm twin and earth you'll be fine. (I used 1.5mm for some of mine and still managed to wire them, although it was tight). Before fitting the light to the wall, screw-in the bulb-holder and feed the wire through it from the rear of the fitting. After fitting to the wall, trim the wire, insert the ends into the separate clip-on electrical contact for the bulb and push the the clip-on part into place. Apply decorators caulk around the edge to seal the lamps against the wall and and then paint to your desired colour. I had trouble fitting my chosen compact fluorescent bulbs because they were a llittle too big; so I gouged-out some extra room by scraping the inside curved wall with a chisel and course sandpaper! Again.. an advantage of their plaster construction. You can also alter the angle of the bulb-holder in the same way, again creating more room for your bulb. However, the fittings will not accomoodate a standard GLS bulb no matter how much material you remove; you'll need to stick to golf-balls, candles or CFLs (with modfications, as described). So yes, I recommend them. I've never broken one, despite my creative scraping and sanding, and they can be made to look as eyecatching or unobtrusive as you wish acccording to your choice of paint colour. Just bear in mind that these light fittings are not 'plug and play'; you'll need some patience and you'll need to put in a little effort to get the best out of them. But that's what you'd expect for £8!

Simple but tasteful

This is a really lovely wall/uplighter, very simple but tasteful. The bulb needs to be screw in and quite small. I haven't found one yet so can't say how beautiful it looks when lit, but I can imagine it!
