Fabulous warm and comfortable new toilet seat
When our lovely original wood toilet seat snapped unexpectedly we had to replace it quickly and our nearest plumbing store recommended a plastic new one. We tried it and it was awful so we went in search of another wood one and found the Bemis Hartford White one. It is fabulous, it was easy to fit, warm to sit on and the Soft Close system works perfectly.

Bemis Hartford Soft Close Seat: Poor Design.
BEMIS HARTFORD Take Off Seat - A surprising disappointment. Although the seat itself is good quality, the quality of the mounting fixtures is poor, the mode of fixing is poor, and the UK market seat seems to have less "fixing & mounting parts" than the USA models ? Following the (very poorly presented instructions which are hard to make out based as they are on murky black/white/grey images) I spent hours trying to get the seat stable. The mounting lugs only fit a seat with min 16 mm mounting holes so tough luck if yours is a 14 mm mounting. In the end, took the useless thing off and parked it in the garage.

Good toilet seat
Easy to fit and soft close lid works well. Good looking smooth white seat

Terrible
Difficult to install so that it stays in place. Marks really easily and finish doesn’t last. Seat broke after normal use by cracking and then breaking. Ask after a couple of months. Avoid.

Substandard paint finish
I bought this seat, probably the most expensive in the range, as it does look good on the face of it. However, when I undid the packaging to fix the seat it revealed a really poor paint spray finish on the edge of the underside of the seat top. The staff in the Newcastle Scotswood store were very helpful and allowed me to exchange. However all other Hartford seats had the same poor finish. I got the New York in the end. The spray finish is not an issue on this one. Could have done without the hassle of returning, esp top of range seat.

This toilet seat keeps moving
The plastic bolts underneath keeps untightening making the seat wobbly constantly. Very frustrating as it’s probably the most expensive toilet seat sold by B&Q…
