Confusing underlay
I have just opened the packaging on this, the instructions say foil side up even though the picture has foil side down. Which is correct, all underlay I have used before says foil side down ?????

Quality underlay at 3mm thick
This is what is recommended when laying 12 mm laminate flooring .it tell you on the instructions . Also the laminate instructions tells you to lay the roll with the silver side on the top. So your laminate floats on the nice shiny silver .

Great underlay - not uniformly cut
I bought this to lay underneath wooden floor, happy with the ease of installing and the quality in terms of warmth. However, I measured and purchased what I needed which turned out to be different in reality as the rolls are different widths! Can’t use the end of one and start another with a join which was a pain and I needed to order an other roll for a few feet of coverage as I had an off cut which was useless being a few cm wider than the other two rolls I had opened. Would I buy it again? Not sure.

The best
Having laid many a floor, forget all the other underlays. This is by far the best product available, don’t bother with the foam or cardboard rubbish. It may seem expensive but is noticeably better insulated and feels nice under foot.

Duralay underlay
Easy to lay foil side down, definitely warmer and much quieter. Downside is my laminate was much thicker than I remembered, and the two layers together stopped the front door opening,; as it was an old butt hinge type upvc door there was not enough adjustment so had to taper this underlay a metre back from the door and got it to barely touch when wide open. I doubt any door will open normally over this and thick flooring, so expect work there. Added approx 15mm extra height in my case. Many upvc doors don't adjust by over 11mm.

Duralay underlay
This is easy to use and although it weighs a ton when its cut up its manageable. Considering the edges being bad in some reviews maybe it was stored on its end and gor damaged as mine butted up perfectly and could hardly see the seam. It has to be taped down the seam so ragged edges wont matter anyway.
