Interesting product which is being mis-marketed
The descriptions of this product by B&Q are misleading. I do not believe the material is intended for hand sanding as B&Q's web description indicates. Erbauer's pack does not emphasize that this product should be used for hand sanding. After all there are many rolls of sand paper on the market tailored to fit hand sanders. Having purchased a pack of this mesh substrate sand paper with an Erbauer 1/3 sheet sander, I believe that this material has two main benefits when compared with regular paper-backed sandpaper: Both advantages relate to its use in sheet sanders not in manual sanders. The advantages are: 1) the mesh backing grasps the base of a hand sander like the "hook and loop" mechanism of a typical rotary sander. 2) a greater than usual proportion of the sanded particulate is captured by the sander's extraction and trap system. The mesh design does not appear to give greater endurance than good paper-backed designs.
