VARNISH
I BOUGHT SEVERAL SAMPLE TINS OF VARIOUS VARNISH, THE TURNED OUT TO BE ALMOST CLEAR. ALL THE SAMPLES WHERE CLEAR MATT BUT THIS WAS THE BEST FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF BEING ALMOST CLEAR.

Ronseal Satin finish Diamond Hard
Brought this product this month to do our living room floor light Oak. Easy to apply did three coats with a roller and brush. Very good finish and hard waring. Have done this every two years and all ways pleased with the finish product. Would definitely recommend.

Easy to apply, but not at all durable
I bought this 18 months ago and applied to an oak-veneered office desk I had just built. I left a good review initially (which I can't find now) because it was so easy and forgiving to apply - went on so easily and left a very even finish with no brush marks. The area of the desk not used still looks fine 18 months on, but the 'high traffic' areas (nothing other than sitting at the desk and using the computer) went black and sticky within 6 months. We lived with this for a year, but I spent most of this weekend stripping it all off (a horrible task) and reapplying some decent varnish. For something called 'diamond hard' I'd expect something much better than this. Would be fine for use on a decorative shelf or similar - not for a table, desk, stairs, or any 'high traffic' areas.

Clear Matt varnish
Wasn't happy with this. It was white in the tin but having never used clear Matt before I thought this was supposed to be like this. It dried almost immediately even before I had finished varnishing a small knife block and streaked.I will not buy this again. Definitely not what it said on the tin.

Rubbish!!! one star is one too much!
Bought this to varnish stairs, its colour is terrible, like ive now read afterwards comes out like a very poor curry colour! i tested it first gave if the benefit waited to dry sanded and applied another coat still the same, i stirred it again for about ten minutes thinking i hadnt stirred it enough, but no its greeny grey, gives the wood a yellow/green stain its horrible! so thats a waste of money! what can you do about this once you opened it and sampled?

Marks too easily
Bought this to do a high traffic area and although it does go down well I was really disappointed that after three coats it marked so easily. Even the slightest water droplet on the floor left a pale and very obvious watermark. The area I've varnished is the lounge/dining room and high traffic and subject to spills for a variety of reasons. After just over a week the floor was an absolute state with marks, from wet footprints to where tea or coffee dropped. Although the varnish goes on nicely, dries very quickly and looks good. It is most definitely not Diamond Hard. Any water marks will likely show up and ruin your hard work.

Coverage wrong
The stated coverage for the 250ml tin is incorrect. It states 24msq ,i didn't expect that, but had assumed a quarter of a litre would give a quarter of this figure.... 6msq. The actual coverage stated on the tin is 2msq at 2 coats.
