Ronseal Ultimate protection Matt slate Decking paint, 5L
- Colour and protect decking
- Protect from frost
- Give the paint a good stir, it’s best to use something wide like an old wooden spoon. Check you’re happy with the colour. Find a hidden part of the deck and try it. Get lots of paint on your brush. Start in the furthest corner, brushing along the length of the boards. Work on 3-4 boards at a time so you don’t get any overlap marks. If your deck has got small cracks, brush in extra paint until they’re filled. You’ll need to put on 2 coats. Leave 4 hours between each coat. After 48 hours you’ll be able to get your furniture out and use the deck. If you get any paint on yourself, wash it off with warm soapy water.

Ronseal Deck Paint

Bought this slate grey deck paint last month and treated all our decking and must say its the best I've ever used. We've had lots of rain and water runs off easily, would certainly recommend.
Better than expected

After reading the other reviews I couldn’t decide if this was going to be a good or bad purchase but after buying it for my old decking, I can say it was a great purchase.
I gave the can a long shake side to side then left it sat upside down for 30mins. Then used a good solid wooden stirrer and mixed well. There was no separation and mixed well. One coat later and couldn’t be happier, going to do another coat due to some boards being pretty old and porous.
I had pre cleaned the deck with deck cleaner but didn’t do anything else before painting.
As the first coat has dried it has gone darker and more slate color.
The negative reviews speak for themselves.

This is very expensive and I am immensely disappointed with it. As it was such an investment, I was careful to follow the instructions exactly. I prepared the decking and used the Ronseal Decking Stripper. The stripper was a complete waste of money, having barely any effect and I ended up having to use a pressure washer and scrubbing the decking by hand with a stiff brush to remove the paint and clean the surface. I haven't had the same problems as other reviewers with inconsistency of colour, but I used a mixer attachment on a cordless drill. Without that drill attachment, there is no way I could have got consistency of colour. I should also add, that I needed to remix the paint every time I refilled the paint tray as it would separate out very quickly. Once it was done, it looked great and I was pleased with the results, but within 1 week huge amounts of the paint had worn off from people walking on the decking. Given that decking is designed to be walked on, I do not feel that ronseal have made a product that is fit for purpose. For that reason, I cannot recommend this product to anyone. I am hoping that Cuprinol or someone else will make an equivalent that performs much better. This was very expensive and sadly not very effective. I will have to re-do the decking again before the winter to protect it during the winter months, which is ridiculous considering it was only applied in early June. I hope that Ronseal will take their customer feedback on board and will refine their product. I hope that B&Q will take into consideration the consistently negative reviews of this product and discontinue the line, until Ronseal produce something better. It is really not what it promises to be.
