Relax Storage Solution

Relax Wardrobe Storage Solutions Beware of any gaps where the stanchions are not 90cm or 55cm apart, though the shoe rack and clothes hanger bars readily cut down to size the shelves do not. The units themselves are obviously built for other installation situations. There were no predrilled holes for the connections to the rails. Really easy to split the chipboard and break off chunks of laminate in doing so. I never found a way to purchase individual fixings so for instance you couldn’t make two 610mm hanger bars or shoe racks from the 1220mm rails supplied or create a tie or belt rack from offcuts. Stanchions – Fine, and easy to cut to size. They do scratch if the brackets slip when not properly deployed (sometimes the retaining tab on the fixings doesn’t rotate to be secured properly in the stanchion’s groove) Shelves – Made of Chip board, covered in a thick laminate on the sides, but very thin on top and bottom surfaces. Though you are expected to cut these to size for gaps that are not the standard widths (90cm of 55cm) it is extremely difficult to achieve at home. The chipboard breaks up even with a fine saw and with the shelf sandwiched in scrap timber, then the thin laminate is easily damaged, nothing is supplied to disguise the cut edges. When you sand the exposed ends of the chip board, the glue seems to melt then re-set to create a fairly smooth edge to the cut surface. Shoe rack, it isn’t obvious for the Website that actually you can fit shoe racks in pairs to create a double depth rack. Drawers – The same chipboard and laminate as used for the shelves. Very heavy for the supplied fittings no instructions for installing onto the rails. Precision drilled holes for constructing the drawers, but none for the fixings to the rails. When I used a self-tapping screws to secure to the brackets the chipboard buckled and split off a chunk of thin laminate. In contrast, the runners are really very high quality – very impressed. Trouser Draw –Again no holes or instructions for fitting to the stanchions. Very heavy for the fittings. Once again, the runners were of a much higher quality than the unit itself. Basket – NOT suitable for domestic construction! I broke three of the supplied “T” brackets. It would take a factory setting or long clamps to successfully construct this without breaking these brackets. I was really pleased I had purchased through B&Q whose help line arranged replacement brackets and dispatch of broken ones to their Quality Assurance team with minimum fuss. I have abandoned all hope of successfully using the T brackets and bolted on some flat corner braces instead. There is no reason for this not to be supplied ready constructed since the basket is the largest component. The design is poorly thought through. On first glance it looks as if the basket is supported along a small shelf running the width of the unit, but then you see the wire frame was constructed with the wire from the sides lower than the front and back, so the basket is supported over 2mm instead of 900mm. Once again, the runners were of a much higher quality than the unit itself.
