Valspar - The Liz Truss of Paint Products

This primer is genuinely terrible. Easy to put on, but as soon as you paint your regular or paint on top (after the primer has dried), it immediately starts to blister and puff up like psoriasis. It’s so frustrating as I’ve now had to sand off all the primer from the skirting boards and architrave. Genuinely embarrassing for such a big company to be selling such a below par product. Never again. I would give the product zero stars if I could. It that bad.

Worked well

I purchased this to prime plywood and it worked well. Not sure why some reviews are saying it is quite thin. I found it quite thick and the first coat gave a nice coverage.

Great Product!

purchased for an upcycle project for an old wood drawer unit that I wanted to paint dark therefore didn't want a white primer. It worked perfectly. I mixed with a little water for the first coat, 2nd coat wasnt necessary but did it anyway. coverage was perfect and the finish of the now painted unit is bold, even and not chipping!

Very disappointing product

I tried this primer/undercoat as Dulux not available. It was very thin but needed 3 coats to cover my wooden unit. When I then put my Satin paint which was my final cover on it looked like it was blistering the raised and has left the paint lumpy. I had prepared my unit with my electric sander then washed the unit. I will not be buying any Valspar products again after wasting all my time. I would have given no stars if I could for this product.

Buy another product

Picked it up in a hurry as couldn’t see the normal dulux on the same shelf, wish I hadn’t now. The paint is really thin and takes 2-3 coats and runs really badly. I would recommend purchasing dulux trade wood primer instead as that goes on in one. Iv also previously used cheap wood primer from a discount store and it’s better than this valspar stuff.

Save yourself time and buy another brand

Bought two tins, the first tin was okay, not as good coverage as dulux but seemed okay, second tin absolutely shocking - very runny, barely any coverage, drips everywhere and just seems to run off the wood! Very inconsistant and messed up my evenings work to do - returning opened second tin as is useless!

Like painting with water

Terrible product. Even after several minutes it has the consistency and coverage of water.

Shirl 23 - 1 / 5 - 11/10/2023

Rubbish

Bought this and was the worst undercoat I have ever had, was the consistency of milk and it was glue to apply. Don't waste your money
