Very Annoyed x2 again - 1 / 5 - 03/03/2018

This one is absolute rubbish too

I’m an experience DIYer and hanging doors is something I have done many times before. I purchased this door and frame to match about 18 months ago. I removed old hardwood door and frame (which had served me well for around 15 years), hung the frame, trimmed and squared this door, removed all and rehung old door and frame, while I treated every surface of this door to three coats of exterior grade wood treatment over a three week period. I also fitted a (B&Q) weather drip board to the toe of the door - oak - to shed water and keep the base of the door dry. I even screwed it on from the inside of the door and fully glued it to ensure it was a tight seal. Once treated I rehung this door and frame, square and level and it fitted a treat – all seals snug and perfectly level and true. Over the next six months this door warped, so badly that I now, a year further on, have a 6mm gap between the door and seal at the top corner. The drip board was obviously poorly seasoned oak as it split off the door during the first summer leaving a 4mm gap down which rainwater runs. Useless. I will need to fit a new door this summer after less than 2 years service. Given the time I spent treating this door for external fitting, the time spent hanging and fitting properly and the cost of the door I am absolutely appalled at the quality of this door. Please do yourself a favour and don’t buy any of these oak veneer doors: they are rubbish. The frame is no better, yes its “hardwood” but is the softest hardwood ever with a spongy open texture. I don’t expect that to last more than a year or two either. I will never be buying exterior doors from B&Q again.
