Electrical and electronic recycling

Buying a new electrical or electronic item from us? From 1st January 2021, as part of our commitment to reducing the amount of unwanted electrical waste being incinerated or sent to landfill sites, we’ll ensure your old electricals are recycled. Everything with a plug, battery or cable can be recycled or turned into something useful.

Your options are:

1. In-store electrical and electronic recycling

For a better way to part with any broken or unwanted goods, drop off any small electrical and electronic products in one of our stores for free - that way you can be sure they’ll be recycled responsibly. We’ll also take light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and batteries in our recycling units. You’ll find them near our checkouts. For any larger products, we can help dispose of them responsibly in store if you’ve bought a like-for-like product from B&Q within the last 28 days. Simply speak to a colleague in store.

2. Electrical waste home collection

We’ll also collect any large electrical or electronic (EE) products from your home if you’ve bought a like-for-like product from B&Q within the last 28 days. All eligible EE products will be highlighted on our product pages. (Please note, electrical waste home collection is not applicable to the Channel Islands or Isle of Man. You’re welcome to drop off any small electrical and electronic products in one of our stores though.) You can also find local recycling points for your old electricals here.

What to look out for

To help with your recycling habits, all new electrical products are marked with a crossed-out wheelie bin symbol and means they should not be disposed of with your household waste. We kindly ask that when you’re disposing of any electrical or electronic items that you do so correctly.

Your old electricals will be taken to a recycling plant for processing and separated into individual materials, so they can be turned into new, more useful things. Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is regulated by the UK Government.
