AnyJunk skip hire - FAQs

We've gathered some frequently asked questions to help you in using AnyJunk skip hire.

Skip prices vary significantly based on several factors, including the size of skip (larger ones tend to be more expensive), geographical location, (typically the South incurs higher costs than the North) and whether you require a skip permit or licence.

When you book your skip with AnyJunk you will be given a price based on the above factors.

When it comes to skip hire, it's essential to be aware of what you can and cannot put into a skip. There are a number of items which are prohibited due to health and safety, but most household waste can be put into a skip.

Here are the most common items that cannot be disposed of in a skip:

  • Asbestos
  • Batteries
  • Clinical or medical waste, including syringes
  • Electrical appliances & equipment
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Fridges, freezers and air conditioning units
  • Gas canisters and gas bottles
  • Hazardous & toxic materials Liquids
  • Oil, petrol, diesel
  • Paint & cans of paint
  • Plasterboard
  • Tyres
  • TVs & computer screens
  • Upholstered domestic seating (POPs)

Please remember, if prohibited items are found during the skip emptying process, you may incur additional charges, and the restricted items will be returned to you. If your skip is in an open and public area, keep an eye on it. People might dispose of their own rubbish in your skip, and unfortunately, you are responsible for the waste that ends up in it.

It is the responsibility of the customer to arrange and purchase and permit or licence required for their skip hire.

  • If you intend to place a skip on a public road, you must obtain a skip hire permit from the local council.
  • This permit needs to be arranged before the delivery of the skip.
  • Keep in mind that skip permits come with an additional cost.
  • The process of obtaining a permit typically takes a few days.
  • If your skip will be located within a controlled parking zone, such as on a single yellow line or in a resident’s parking area or pay-and-display bay, you’ll also need a parking suspension.
  • Both skip permits and parking suspensions involve financial expenses and require some time for arrangement.

Remember to plan ahead and ensure all necessary permits are in place before your skip is delivered.

The typical hire period for a skip usually covers up to 2 weeks. During this time, you have the flexibility to fill the skip at your own pace.

If you know how long you need your skip for, you can arrange a collection date at the time of hiring. Alternatively, you can request collection later once you have a better idea of when you’ll be done with the skip.

If you need the skip for longer than two weeks, simply ask the skip company when you book. But do keep in mind that extending the hire period may incur additional costs.

Remember to also extend your skip permit (if applicable) and any parking suspension.

There are some weight restrictions based on size. If you are renting a skip larger than 8 cubic yards and intend to fill it entirely with soil, bricks, sand, or rubble, you will need to be aware of weight restrictions.

Remember, for everyday household waste disposal, standard skip sizes are usually sufficient and won’t pose weight-related issues. If you’re uncertain, it’s always a good idea to check with AnyJunk to ensure you choose the right size for your needs.

It’s crucial to adhere to the guidelines when filling a skip. The expression “Level Loads Only” is prominently displayed on most skips, and the terms and conditions of skip hire reinforce this rule. You should never fill your skip above the height of its sides.

Exceeding this limit poses risks:

  • Refusal to Collect: The skip lorry driver may refuse to collect an overloaded skip.
  • Safety Concerns: Overloaded skips are hazardous during transportation. Items could spill out en route, potentially causing damage or injury to others.
